it must be OVERLOAD! Our last day in BA and we crammed the sights from morning to night. Totally exhausted. So this will be short. We leave for the airport at 6 for our flight to Ushuaia. So need to be downstairs at 5:30 to start mainlining coffee. Then it's four hours down to Patagonia, for a day of touring and hiking and then onto the ship.
So just this short update, I will catch up on longer posts and upload more pictures while we cruise across the Drake Passage but for now...
The highlight for me of the day was the Floralis Genérica but we also did a very comprehensive bus tour of the city and the main art museum, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes which had an impressive collection.
Here's Mom:
I am tired, I don't think I have walked this much in three days, in years. But it has been worth it, Buenos Aires is a very interesting city and worth a visit. Yesterday we went to a leather store and we each found something to buy, Lis got a beautiful jacket and I got a gorgeous coat that was made to my measurements, it the first thing that I have ever had made to order. After ordering the coats, we did some more walking and sightseeing. In the evening we went to a tango show and had dinner afterward. The show was fantastic, we were at the very edge of the stage and we saw everything up close. It is amazing how high the girls can kick their legs and how fast they twirl around. The package included a bottle of Champagne which we, of course enjoyed. After the show, we met another couple from the cruise and had dinner with them. The food was great and there was a lot of it. Home late and I was tired enough, to get a good nights rest. It's a good thing I did because guess what we did today. Walk!!! It was a beautiful day and we walked to see this beautiful silver flower, which is very large and opens and closes. They were putting up Christmas trees, around the flower, made out of recycled milk and juice cartons they were fantastic. (see pictures). Then to the Recoleta Cemetery to see Eva Peron's grave an obviously popular and beloved site but some the other graves were more interesting and the cats ruled the place. Back to the hotel to rest then the bus tour of the city, which took us places we hadn't been, picked up our coats and went to the fine arts museum. I think some of the Argentine painters had been to Paris, when the Impressionists were working, you could some on the styles passed on to the Argentine painters. We are back at the hotel getting our things in order, bags out before 11:00 tonight and out of the hotel by 6:00 AM. Tomorrow the boat and the start of what I have been waiting for, Antarctica.
----
So tomorrow we head down to Ushuaia and then we board Minerva. So for those of you tired of all this talk about shopping and steak we will be getting to the high seas and icebergs etc soon, and the real adventure will begin!
